Amid the recent downsizing and shuttering of poker rooms across the Las Vegas Valley, Westgate on Paradise, just off the strip but with heavy Convention Center traffic has taken a different approach, they are embracing poker and opening a room in close proximity to their new and improved Sports Book, named the “Super Book”.
Arriving at around 11AM on Wednesday, the room was technically experiencing their “soft launch” with dealers, floor staff and other Casino executives fluttering about getting the room ready for its first game, which kicked off at 1:30PM with 5 players, quickly becoming a 10 handed ring game by 2PM.
As for the ambience of the room, it’s a fairly comfortable size that could potentially hold 8 tables, but for the time being, there are only 6 tables in the room. It looks like a fairly standard poker room and plans to cater to the tourist traffic and game day players sweating their sports book action.
The plan at the outset is to have coffee and donuts for players, a nod to the way poker rooms catered to their clientele from years past, before the Chris Moneymaker poker boom.
Two of the sides of the room are open, one to a section of slot machines, the other to the sports book itself. There are three 100” projection screen TV’s in the room as well as four 55” TV’s as well.
Rake is 10% up to $4 + $1 Jackpot/Promotional drop, however as the room begins to get up to speed the plan is to have ½ rake through the “Opening” period.
On Friday Aug 11th and again on Monday Aug 14th, there will be 2 freeroll touranments each day with $300 worth of giveaways for each tournament.
Jackpot/Promotions to start out will include High Hand payouts of Aces Full and up as well as Flopped hands of Quads or higher.
The room plans to host your standard variations of poker, LHE (2-4, 3-6, 4-8), NLHE (1-2), O8 (2-4, 3-6, 4-8), and PLO (1-1). When asked what else they would be able to spread, they said that if players come in a group to play, they would be willing to open up the table to them for many other mixed game varieties.
